![]() You can do whatever you want to your master bus and your reference track is always playing along side your mix. Now, physically patch 3-4 into your alternate set of inputs on your monitor controller and you're done. Magic AB is a specialised media player plug-in that allows you to quickly switch between your own mix and up to nine different reference tracks, each with independent level controls and looping options. This will likely be 3-4 with your main mix on 1-2. Conceived by Marc Adamo, its the first plug-in from sample library specialists Sample Magic, and is available in 32- and 64-bit VST, Audio Unit, AAX and RTAS formats. Simply insert your reference tracks into your session and assign the outputs to an alternate set of outputs from your main mix. This of course means you need to have a monitor control of some sort with multiple ins and an interface with 4 outputs but assuming you have that, its dead easy. ![]() The best solution is to leave the A/B switching to whatever you use for your monitor control. ![]() You also have to solo or mute the reference so A/Bing becomes a lot more than simply hitting a button to swap sources which makes it much harder to compare them. This means that you can't simply switch back and forth but have to bypass the plugins and un-bypass them every time you go back and forth. ![]() Many people will simply put the track into the session but this has the distinct disadvantage of running through any processing that is on your master bus. One thing I would add is about actually setting up the reference routing.
